I've got great memories of TWA dating back to the late 60s, when I became a Convair 880 fanatic. When the "Ambassador Service" interiors came along in the early 70s, my interest extended to the entire TWA fleet. There were something like 30 different seat covers that were mixed so that no more than 3 aircraft in the fleet looked the same inside. I made sure my parents booked us on TW so that I could see as many of these as possible. I've got a maintenance sheet listing the Convairs, by fleet number, and the various seat covers that went into each one. I'd love to see similar info for TW's other aircraft of the period. My favorite was 707-331 N774TW, which featured a classy combination of gold, beige and burgundy in Y class. Those were the days! Your L-1011s seemed much classier than the DC-10 counterparts at AA and UA.
While the cabins were nice to look at, I'm told that maintenance was a pain since so many different covers had to be stocked at TW stations.
I continued to fly TW right up until 2001. Your Trans World 1 seats, and the First Class seats in the 767-300 were outstanding, and in the early 90s your First Class service and food on domestic runs was unequaled, since most other carriers had cut back on amenities. Sadly, when Compton came along this deteriorated and there was nothing distinguished about your in-flight, save the nice legacy of TW and the employees who stuck with you through thick and thin.
Lastly, I remember a very nice stewardess named Heidi Frischkorn (I believe), who worked a flight from PHX to STL in 1972. It was an 880 and I she went out of her way to make our flight great, especially when she learned that I loved the Convairs. I remember she said that she had tried out for the US Olympic team that year. Perhaps she or an old acquaintance is reading this fond memory, and I thank all of you for the great times on TWA.
