I flew the St. Louis to Cairo (Egypt) route about 6 times during the 80s. A couple times were nonstop from JFK, once with a connection through Rome and a couple times through Athens. I only recall a couple of small problems from almost getting bumped from STL to JFK, to the sudden drop over the Med followed by "GOOOOOOOOOD morning from the Captain were starting our descent into Cairo") after I had been awake all night with a crying baby next to me, along with tons of fear (travelling alone in high school). I never did see the Great Pyramids of Giza from the air (though saw them countless times from the ground). And the illusive landing gear problem from Paris to JFK that would not retract. Finally the free round trip first class JFK to Paris. What an experience I have had with TWA!
